How long does a grooming appointment take?
Depending on the dog's size, coat length, coat condition, style desired, as well as the pet's general cooperation, the grooming appointment may range in time from 30 minutes up to 3 hours in extreme cases.  On average however, a routine, monthly grooming appointment runs about 1 hour per pet.  Overgrown or severely matted pets may take much longer.

Do I have to be home?
For our new clients, we require that the owner be present at the time of our arrival, so that we can take a moment to meet the pet, discuss grooming instructions and fill out paperwork.  As for recurring clients on a maintenance schedule, once we're familiarized with a set routine, we can make alternative arrangements to help free your schedule.

How do I prepare my pet for your arrival?
To prepare for the appointment, we ask that your pet have a full potty break ahead of time.  If possible, we ask that he be exercised/played with, to release pent-up energy.  Finally, we appreciate discussing best parking options ahead of time, so that we don't accidentally obstruct entrances to buildings or block other vehicles.

Do you accept special needs dogs or cats?
Absolutely!  We accept most breeds and all ages of dogs and cats, as long as they are in relatively good health and appear to be comfortable.  We will gladly accommodate dogs with behavioral problems such as anxiety, hyperactivity or mild aggression with an additional HANDLING FEE for our time and effort.  We do reserve the right to refuse at any time during the appointment, any dog who appears so uncomfortable or stressed that their health and general well-being may be compromised.  We expect payment in full regardless, and may discuss alternative options for completing the appointment with less stress.

What vaccinations do you require?
The only vaccination that is absolutely mandatory for service with us is Rabies as required by state law.
A copy of your rabies certificate, or a statement from the vet that includes owner's name, pet's name/breed and expiration date of the Rabies vaccine can be faxed to us before the first appointment.
Our fax number is 509-562-5752.

It is recommended that all dogs have a minimum of a 2 or 3 shot puppy series but we do not require proof of these... It is understood that we are not responsible for any illnesses acquired because of lack of Distemper, Parvo, Kennel Cough, Leptospirosis or any other "routine" vaccinations.  Every effort is made to keep our trailer sanitary and prevent the spread of disease.

Do you accept After-hour/Weekend appointments?
We work on a set schedule from 9am to 6pm Monday through Friday. BY APPOINTMENT.
Occasionally we will take emergency appointments outside those weekday hours but will apply a $25 overtime fee to the total.
Saturday appointments are a premium service and as such there is a $20 premium fee for Saturdays.  Saturdays are not always available as this is when our Dog Show and Grooming competitions tend to take place.

What if I can't keep my appointment?
We require a 24 hour CANCELLATION NOTICE in the event that an appointment cannot be kept.  For Monday appointments, this means we need to be contacted on Friday.  This gives us and our "waiting list" clients some time to fill the cancelled appointment slot.  Of course more advanced notice is greatly appreciated. Failure to call on a regular business day at least 24 hours in advance of your appointment may result in a charge of a $50 no call/no show fee that must be paid prior to your next grooming appointment.

Do you reuse bath water on multiple pets?
We do NOT reuse bath water on multiple pets.  We carry enough fresh water with us to accommodate all pets scheduled for the day.  AS we complete a bath, the used water is either drained into our holding tank and carried back home where we use this biodegradable byproduct to water our lawn and garden, or is drained out as we use it (winter months).

Do you use cages?
We do not use cages for drying or restraining pets.  We complete each pets groom individually, right on the grooming table.  For cats and small dogs, we ask that you provide a carrier to safely transport the pet to and from our trailer but while in the trailer, the carrier will be set aside and not used until transporting the pet back into the home.

How do you supply power and hot water?
Our mobile salon has an 8000 watt Generac gasoline fueled generator that supplies adequate electricity to power all of our grooming equipment and an on-demand water heater. It is no louder than a weed-whacker or lawnmower but because it can be annoying outside of normal business hours, we prefer not to start grooming in neighborhoods until approximately 9am. In the wintertime, to make extra sure that our water is of adequate temperature to comfortably bathe your pet, we warm-fill our fresh water tank.

Can I watch while my pet is being groomed?
Ideally we prefer not to have pet owners watch while we groom.  We have found that this often has a distracting influence on the pet and there is a greater chance of having minor "mishaps" due to over excitement or misbehavior.  The pets generally behave better when it is a strictly groomer - pet relationship in the mobile salon.

What measures do you take to clean and disinfect?
We are very diligent about cleaning and disinfecting all work surfaces following each appointment.  This strict regime not only prevents potential outbreaks of disease, but it keeps our salon fresh and odor free and a preferred place to work.  We also thoroughly clean and disinfect our grooming tools as an additional precaution and to help keep them in good operating condition.

Does frequent grooming dry out my pet's skin and coat?
There's a common misconception among pet owners that frequent grooming will be damaging to their pet's skin and coat.  Although this may have been true a few decades ago, when grooming practices often involved the use of soap, dish detergents, harsh chemical parasite control, motor oil mange dips and other outdated practices, it is far from a threat today.  The grooming industry, like any other cosmetics industry, has evolved and blossomed with quality, proven products to support bathing as frequent as our own daily showers. Grooming did not become a multimillion dollar industry by causing skin problems, but by alleviating them and promoting cleanliness and healthful management.

Do you express anal glands?
We believe that healthy anal glands are routinely expressed by dogs during their daily bodily functions.  It is a natural process.  With that said, there may be cases of impaction to the glands which we feel stem from a medical condition.  Sometimes these glands may be infected and are often times sore and cause pressure, as witnessed by the dog's attempts to relieve the discomfort by licking or scooting.  We will gladly check the glands while bathing your dog, and express them if it does not cause discomfort to the pet. Expression of overfull, sore, or impacted glands should be left to a qualified veterinarian.  If the glands cannot be expressed safely by us, we will let you know so that you can have your veterinarian take a look.

How often should I have my pet groomed?
A routinely groomed pet will have:
a manageable, clean coat full of body and luster,
healthy skin that's neither greasy nor flaky,
 short, smooth nails
and clean, odor-free ears.
The hair of the feet will not drag dirt and debris into the home.
The hair beneath the tail will not become soiled with stool or emit an offensive odor.
The hair around the genitals will be kept short, eliminating any potential of urine or feces burning the skin around such sensitive areas.
There will be a noticeable reduction of loose coat and dander, which may alleviate owner allergies and improve air quality in your shared living space.
A routinely groomed pet should be scheduled on a monthly basis.

Where is your home base so I can figure out whether I am within your service area?
Home base is 4280 24th St, Dorr, MI 49323
We service within 25 miles of that location (by travel, not straight line radius).  If you are outside that area, we may still be able to offer our services, depending on a variety of factors .  Over 25 miles I generally include an extra $1/mile (one way) into your grooming price but will generally waive that for multiple pet households.  If you have a neighborhood with a lot of pets that would like to get on a set schedule of every 4 or 6 weeks, we definitely will make exceptions.
The less we need to travel between appointments, the better!
That being said, I do a LOT of grooming up in East Grand Rapids area so if you are up there, don't worry, I will still come there even if you are a couple miles extra...  ;-)
